Varsity Girls Basketball

The varsity girls basketball team took to the home court on Saturday, 2月ruary 19th in hopes to advance to the semifinals of the NCISAA playoffs. The game started off at a frantic pace. Both teams were feeding off the energy in the crowd and it took well into the first quarter for teams to settle down. Early on Ingrid Melo came out with the hot hand and had 7 of the team’s 9 points in the first quarter. 不幸的是, with her scrappy defense, she picked up her third foul midway through the second quarter which changed the Warriors game plan slightly. They finished the first half down by just 3 and ready to keep competing. Coming out in the third Kyra Parker who took over the game. Becoming more aggressive she was getting to the rim and finishing quite well. She had 9 of the team’s 13 third quarter points. 最后, the team’s foul trouble combined with Concord’s post players have stellar games posed too much for them to overcome and finished with a game score of 42-58. Seniors Kyra Parker and Ingrid Melo finished with 9 and 21 points respectively. Coach Alan Hinnant added "our girls have nothing to be ashamed of. We played well and fought until the end. This season has been a special one. This team is as close as any group I have coached at St. 大卫的. Their love for and commitment to each other is what makes this group so special. I hate we lost this game, but I hate to see the season end even more. I love seeing this group every day and I could not be more proud to be their coach." 

The Varsity Girls team played Thales at home last night, 12月ember 15th. The team powered through Thales finishing them off with a 55-3 defeat over the Knights. The crew started off strong and didn't let up, never giving the opponent a chance to fight their way back into the game with their signature scrappy defense that really tends to frazzle the other team. The win was a group effort with everyone coming off the bench and supporting the defensive efforts and with many contributing offensively. They team has continued to improve by learning to share and ball offensively and really distribute the ball around the court until the best possible opportunity comes through to score. "It was great to see all of the girls get to play a lot. "They did a great job defensively and everyone did a great job on offense. It was fun to watch", said Coach Alan Hinnant. They Warrior play again on Friday, 12月ember 17th at Cary Academy and will be back on their home court over break for a tournament. Come support our Warriors!  

The Varsity gils closed their week of games out with a home game against Forsyth Country Day on Friday, 12月10日在家. Early in the game they played really well in front of a Christmas crowd and build an strong 8 point lead pushing them into the second quarter ahead but a quick run of 7 points from Forsyth closed out the half with a tight 21-20 game. The back-and-forth game continued through the third until, 在第四节, the team lost some steam and were outplayed in a few moments of the game where Forsyth took advantage of the mistakes made. “我们的球队踢得很好, we just need to clean up a few mistakes if we plan to compete with the best teams in the state.
